Pelaires Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Girbent's exhibition Manifiesto at the Pelaires Cabinet.
The opening will take place on Saturday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m.
On this occasion, the Sóller-born artist Girbent presents a show that is in his own words "playful and slightly provocative": a wink, or a parody, of the artistic manifestos that defined the 20th century (although, as he himself has admitted, his most direct inspiration was the celebrated DOGMA 95 manifesto by Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier).
Girbent proposes an aesthetic controversy and invites both cultural practitioners and the general public to take part in a critical debate.
The artist illustrates the decalogue of precepts for a 21st-century painting that shapes his Manifiesto with a full-scale (1:1) replica of Velázquez's La Venus del espejo, which he provocatively presents as radical contemporary art… and as his best painting to date.
